Arising from her response to the past and to the present, Sonia Martin’s subjects are a merging of the here and now and the imagination. The figures often appear to be searching for their place in the world, reflecting on past experiences and future hopes.  Exploring themes of memory, mortality and freedom, the paintings are a search for renewal through new understandings.
